CANON [EDWARD] GREGORY AMBROSE WILFORD PAGE-TURNER,1931-2021
Son of Frederick Ambrose Wilford Page-Turner [1882-1936], and his wife the former Marguerite Farndon Morris [1910-2004]. born at Ambrosden House, Bicester, on 29 December 1931, He was born prematurely weighing only 2.1/2 LB’s, and needed to be kept in an incubator for several months.
Educated at Downhouse, Northiam, Sussex, and St Edmunds School Hindhead.
At the age of 17 Gregory started his working life at Harveys in Guildford followed by Harrods of Knightsbridge.
At 19, he worked for 2 years as an assistant to Cazenove’s Stockbrokers in the City. At the same time, he started working at evening classes to get his GCEs, as he wanted to go to Theological College.
Gregory
first got his calling to the church when he lived in Plaistow in the East End
of London In the mid-1950s, it was here that he worked with the Missions to
Seamen and the Anglican Franciscans who ran the parish of St Philip.
Aged 25 Gregory started a 3-year course at Queen’s Theological College Birmingham having acquired the necessary grades, supported by the Bishop of Whitby Philip William Wheeldon OBE (1913–1992), Philip Wheeldon supported Gregory. He was a powerful influence on the lives of Gregory and his brother Noel becoming their unofficial guardian during a turbulent time in their lives.
They stayed with Bishop Wheeldon at the Old Rectory Kilvington Yorkshire for several years. Philip Wheeldon introduced Gregory to Opera and in particular Wagner and Strauss. Opera was a great Love of Gregory for all his life.

He was ordained in 1960, Curate of Helmsley, York 1960–64,

Rector of Bladon with Woodstock 1979–87, He organized many successful concerts at Blenheim Palace and served these parishes for 8 years.
Rural Dean of Woodstock 1984–87,
Rector of Patterdale 1987–89, Gregory had a short incumbency in Paterdale he loved his ministry with the Cumbrian Farmers who were few and far between, but ultimately the remoteness became too much for him.

Rural Dean of Lyme Bay 1992–98,
Rural Dean of Beaminster 1994–98,
Canon of Sarum Cathedral 1999–2001,
Retired in 2001
living for the rest of his life in Beaminster Dorset.
Supply Minister to Tangier 2003 for the Bishop of Gibraltar
Gregory loved his music, It was a very important part of his life and through it, he made many long-lasting friends. He attended the Beureuth Music Festival for many years and was a regular part of the audience at Glyndebourne.
Gregory was present regularly with his family in Devon both his brother Noel and his Half sisters Elizabeth and Heather and their mother Peggy.
